Imagine my surprise when I received a WONDERFUL, DELIGHTFUL package in the mail today from Penny at Hands Sew Full. She is participating in Pay it Forward and made this cherry apron for me. I LOVE IT! I love red and love cherries. I have some cherry things in my kitchen, so this was the perfect gift, especially because the other day I was thinking how much a I needed an apron when I was making jam. Penny even mentioned in her note to me that I could use it next time I made jam. And if this perfection wasn't enough, it arrived one day after my birthday. Yes, the perfect, cheerful, amazing gift. Thank you, Penny!!
Again, I love it and thank you so much Penny. This gift truly is from a friend, not just some random blog stranger. Penny has been such an encouragment to me over the months, offering sweet words during a rough pregnancy and praying for me. I love you and thank God for sending me another friend, even if we are miles apart. Hugs and continued prayers for your family!

Five Minute Friday -- Still
It's Five Minute Friday and I'm in a chipper mood. Click the link for details, after you read my post. Let's get started....
Writing for five minutes on the subject "Still."
Still...
I'm still here. ha! Today is my birthday, 34th to be exact and I'm thrilled to still be here. I'm thankful for the life God has given me, thankful for a life filled with love, joy, and moments of peace. I'm thankful He redeemed me and I'm still His and forever will be. I'm still married to my Russ, still a mom, to four wonderful children now. I still love my family and love to laugh.
I'm glad the sun is still shining on me and the birds are still singing. I hope as I enter this 35th year of life, that I'm still singing as well, still praising, still laughing, still thankful, still pouring my very being into my family, still growing in the grace of God which is in Jesus Christ, my Lord.
Stop!
Now I'm off to enjoy the day with my family. I've started the day with some freshly painted red toe nails. Can't have ugly feet on my birthday! And I'm wearing a new pair of earrings Kristy made for me. I'll share photos later because I have things to do and then it's back to the pool this afternoon with my four fantastic children. Hope you have a wonderful day as well!!

Civil War Chronicles, Block 2 -- February
Yes, it's July (almost August), but I just now finished my February block of the month. Good grief!! I'm not sure which, but either this quilt or still getting up at night with my almost 6 month old will be the death of me. haha! Yawn! I feel like my brain is fried. Which can be a good thing, if you knew my brain. But, when you type the word "February" ten different ways and all of them don't look right, so you go to Merriam Webster to confirm the spelling, then you know you have real problems. haha! Is there a nap in my future? Um...not today, because I'm taking the kids swimming. I think my kids find delirious mom more fun. ;-)
Okay, points....points....points.....aaaaahhhhhhhhh! I was forewarned that this quilt is a lot of cutting and piecing, so I have no one to blame but myself. I'm being as absolutely meticulous as I know how to be. Some of my points line up beautifully and some not so much. And my measurements are still coming up a little short. At least they are consistently short. Is there a trick I'm missing? Is there a quilting fairy that is refusing to touch me with her wand because she is finding great amusement at my expense? Well, here she is...February, at my finest....
February is four of these 16" blocks. First you do all this cutting, hundreds of squares. Then you make a ton of half square triangles, trim all those up to the correct measurement, then make 16 smaller blocks, to piece together to make 4 of what you see above. I was a bit deceived by "block" of the month. It may be the same block for the month, but if you do four of them, I think it should be called "blocks of the month." Just saying!
Okay, now are you ready for real craziness.....I'm going to do another quilt this year. Mom, don't call and chastise me. haha!! I'm working at my own pace and if I get done, by year's end, great...if not I'll be done next year or sometime before I'm 40, I think.
Sunny at Quilting Dreams is doing a stay-at-home round robin. You can read details on her page. Kristy and I are going to each do one, so we are sewing together and she is learning at the same time. She's already picked her theme, what she wants for her center block, and color scheme. Go Kristy! So, over the next several months, I'll be posting pictures of our progress on this project as well. I'm looking forward to quilting time with Kristy and somehow, I think she may get done before me.

Peach Jam, Peach Butter, & Pumpkin Muffins
It's been a busy few days in the kitchen. Last week, I bought a case of peaches and decided to jump into canning. I've wanted to for a long time, but it's been one of these intimidating things...which I've finally tackled and looking forward to experimenting more. And I'll share my pumpkin chocolate chip muffin recipe below. These were a specific request from Nate to have after his early morning dental appointment on Monday. My family loves these and they go fast!!
But, first things first....
But, first things first....

| I blanched my peaches and put in ice water. The peels slipped off very easily. The water has fruit fresh in it, so they don't brown while waiting to be used. |
![]() |
| Mmmmm...looking and smelling good!! |
![]() |
| My very first batch of jam ever! Yay!! |
![]() |
| Two batches of peach jam and one batch of peach butter. The jam appears to have set very nicely! |
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 16 oz. can pumpkin
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 cups vegetable oil
3 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 bag chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350. Beat eggs, sugar, pumpkin, vanilla, and oil. Mix dry ingredients. Slowly add to pumpkin mixture, while beating. Stir in chips. Pour into muffin pans. Bake approximately 16 minutes for regular muffins and about 9 minutes for mini-muffins.

| I use a fork to mix my dry ingredients and then slowly add to my pumpkin mixture. |
![]() |
| YUM! Lastly, you stir in chocolate chips for a yummy batter. |

| Ta da! Delish! |

| This was my special treat. I'm not eating sugar, wheat or dairy, so resisted all the other goodies. I indulged in some gorgeous cherries!!! |
| And Jacob decided to eat my hair!! |

Livin' on Love
This evening Russ is gone and Jacob went to bed early. Nate and I had some wonderful time by ourselves. We walked around our field and I gave him a piggyback ride. I pushed him on the swing, we played basketball, and jumped on the trampoline. Then we laid on it, talked to God, waved at an airplane, watched the birds, and when the bugs' evening songs grew louder Nate said he could hear heaven. We watched the sunset and he gave me lots of kisses. Nate asked, "Where can I dance with a pretty girl like you?" ha! We came in, danced to "Living on Love" by Alan Jackson, and I just tucked him in bed.
"She don't care 'bout what's in style
She just likes the way he smiles...
It doesn't take much, when you get enough
Livin' on Love"

Inhale
She holds her five month old in her lap on a rusty, tattered outdoor swing. This is his favorite place and here she has comforted him many times. She considered moving the swing inside the house because sometimes the South Carolina heat is too much for this tired mom. But, she suspects he would protest and the heat does not deter him. It is not the swing. He loves the outdoors. She tries to follow his gaze and wonders what is making him smile so often, brightening his blue eyes and revealing those kissable dimples.
They swing in silence admiring the many beauties around them. The bees are hovering around the Rose of Sharons; their color a perfect contrast for the pale, purple flowers. They welcome the hummingbirds, but she hopes the Blue Jay will not influence her son too much. Though he is beautiful and quite fun to watch, he bullies his neighbors. She tells her son that this bird’s strength is admirable, but he needs to learn to live peaceably amongst the other birds. He doesn’t need to claim every branch on the west side of the white oak and there is plenty of food in the feeder to go around.
She fights to stay awake as the swaying, the heat, and southeast breeze caressing her cheeks relax her. In the past five months, she can count on one hand how many times she has slept more than three hours straight. Earlier this morning, more precisely at 3 a.m., she was up nursing and her entire body ached from exhaustion. She felt like crying and felt like she could no longer nurse her son. This is the only one of her four children that had not developed a decent nighttime routine by this age and for the first time she felt the desire to put him on formula. But, then she looked at him. He was so smooth, soft, and beautiful. He was at perfect peace, perfectly comforted and nourished by her. She knew this was a gift from God, to both her and her son. She could not throw away something as beautiful and precious as this.
Drifting on the swing, her son leans his head back against her chest. She kisses his curls and his eyes struggle to remain open. She begins to run her fingers through his hair, down his cheek, and around to the back of his neck. Her tanned, scarred hands are a shocking contrast against his pale, smooth skin. Youth and perfection versus age and evidence of trials endured. She picks up his hand to adore its innocence. She prays. She prays his hands will never shed innocent blood. She rubs his legs and feet, while praying they will never be swift in running to mischief and she traces his lips with her forefinger, praying they will not become lying lips. She feels his heart beating and prays it will not devise wicked imaginations, but love the Lord someday. She thanks God for her son, for having him to hold, to cherish, and to nurse.
She understands that this is her last baby. Someday, she may hold others. She may swing grandbabies, but she will never have another opportunity to nurse a baby. He is her last and suddenly being tired feels so insignificant. She thinks of mothers who have lost their children. They lose sleep because they grieve, alone in the darkness. She is awake because her son needs held, needs fed, needs love and comfort in the middle of the night. No, she cannot throw this gift away. It is a vapor that will vanish too quickly on its own. For now, she intends to inhale every moment of it.

Who's A Winner -- Me, of course!
What could cheer a gal up on a dreary, rainy day? How about winning a new handbag? Oh yes! That worked for me. Ulrike from crumbles of creativity made this Sophia Carry All Bag, to giveaway. I entered and won. I think it was destined to be mine...red and aqua and then has red and white polka dot pockets. I love polka dots! You have one thrilled winner here! I stole some pics from her blog to share with you, but I'll take new photos when my bag arrives.

Summer Fun
Look what my creative daughter made me, a multi-strand bracelet! She gave it to me with a tag, titling it Summer Fun. I think it's a fitting title and I love it!! It was a just because gift. What a fun, sweet surprise!!
Speaking of summer fun, we made a trip to Myrtle Beach. It felt good to swim in the ocean. Here are just a few pics of the kids from the day. We didn't take many photos...too busy having fun!
| Nate would put his body board right at the water's edge and let the waves come in and hit him. |
| He's running back to tell us how cool that was! |
| The action shot! |
| Our beautiful girl!! |
| I have no idea what is up with Matt's face. haha!! This is our best pic of him from the day. Told you we didn't take many photos. :-) |

Five Minute Friday -- Welcome
It's been a few weeks since I participated in Five Minute Friday. But, I'm back today and I welcome the opportunity to write and share. For more details click on the link. My post follows...
Welcome…
Welcome to my blog. A bit about me…
Almost 14 years ago, I welcomed a husband into my life.
Since then we have welcomed 4 beautiful children into this world.
I have been welcomed into a new family. “Adopted” at age 20ish something. I can’t remember now. Seems like they’ve been my parents much longer.
Recently, I welcomed my brother and his two children for a visit. I love being an aunt.
I have been welcomed into God’s family. Been born again, saved by the amazing grace of God through Jesus Christ. I will be welcomed into his rest…where there will be no more sin, sorrow, or pain, but perfect peace.
I welcome…
