Fabric Love

My fabric arrived from Above All Fabric yesterday.  I LOVE Nicey Jane by Heather Baily.  I can hardly wait to make a bag.  I'm waiting on an Amy Butler pattern I may use, but will decide after it arrives. I also need to make a store run for some interfacing and some notions.

Since I got rid of all my fabric and scraps a few months ago, I decided to order a scrap bag as well.  I'm very pleased with it.  What a fun way to get some new pieces.  Pictures are below, of course.

I'm in love with this print and it will be the main fabric of my bag.

My pile of scraps

These are my favorite pieces.

Whew!

My days are busy, busy, busy!  Part of me is grateful this time is flying by because I know more sleep is in my future.  There is a reason sleep deprivation is used as torture.  haha!  However, I also want to enjoy every moment right now because you see this.....

....adorable little guy, I just love him.  I love kissing him, holding him, smelling him, feeling his soft skin against my lips, rocking him, running my fingers through his hair, nursing him, changing him, washing him....just love everything about him.  Except that reflux, which causes him discomfort at times.  I wish I could fix that.  Poor little guy!

Between taking care of Jacob, the other 3 kids, homeschooling, housework, etc., I'm very busy and the days go quickly.  I haven't spent any time lately sewing or reading blogs.  I thought I'd do a little blog reading today and my google reader had 1,000 unread posts. haha!  I'm mainly scrolling and viewing photos, so if you haven't seen any comments from me lately, you now know why.

On the crafty side, I did manage to work on month 2 of my BOM a little this weekend.  I sewed 128 half square triangles and am in the process of trimming them to the perfect 2 1/2" inches needed.  When those are done, then I can finally sew the blocks....blocks I say, because though it's one 16 1/2" block, I have to make 4 of them.  March's BOM has already arrived and it's another four 16 1/2" blocks.  The encouraging thought is that by the time I'm done with those, I have instructions to sew all nine blocks together, which will be the center of the quilt.  I'll be 1/4 done.  Yay!  That's a nice thought...now to get there.  haha!

Month 2--Work in progress

My sewing area right now, fairly clean because I'm hardly using it.  Oh, how I miss thee!

Month 3--Too bad this doesn't come precut.  ha!
As if I don't have enough to do and not keeping up with the sewing I already have before me, I'm planning more.  I'm no different than the rest of you....addicted.  haha!  I've ordered some cheerful, springlike fabric and some patterns.  I intend to make a new bag sometime soon.  Then I can stop carrying that hideous diaper bag I made.  :-)  When fabric and patterns arrive, I'll post some pics.  Excited!

Okay, I suppose I need to go.  Kristy is rocking Jacob while I blog and I think it's time to relieve her.  Maybe I'll get to scroll through some more blogs on the laptop in a bit.

Pumpkin Banana Smoothie

I love pumpkin! While in a waiting area the other day, I saw a recipe for a healthy pumpkin banana smoothie.  I tried to remember all the ingredients because I had nothing to write with.  Though I was tempted to rip the page out of the magazine.  haha!  Anyhow, I googled recipes as well and some sound even yummier, but obviously have extra calories that I don't need.  So here it is, my pumpkin banana smoothie and I think it's delish.

Pumpkin Banana Smoothie

1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1 banana
crushed ice
cinnamon to taste

I put in my blender on the drink cycle.

I think it might be good with some vanilla yogurt or perhaps adding some vanilla.  Will try next time.

My Boys

Can anything thrill a mama's heart more than seeing her children love each other and hearing their laughter?  I needed to get a couple things done and laid Jacob on his activity mat for some play time.  What I didn't anticipate was that his two brothers would join him without me asking.  This is the longest I've seen Jacob remain content while awake and he is completely fascinated with Matt and Nate. They are making funny faces for him, using their airplanes to attack his cute rainforest animals, expressing great sound effects, and laughing through it all.  They are welcoming Jacob to the brotherhood!  I had to grab the camera....and I LOVE my boys!

State Champ

See that beautiful Best of Show ribbon
on the right.  Yippee!!
Let me introduce a state champ, my Kristy.  First, she won first place in the state 4-H creative contests in early Feb. for her drawing of the superficial muscles of the horse.  She also took a top honor for Best of Show in her division.  Very thrilled for her!!

Then she led her team to victory at the state Hippology (equine science) contest held at Clemson University the last weekend of Feb.  She took first place in the written exam and took the top award, first place for her combined overall score in the contest.  Her team placed 2nd for their team oral presentation, 3rd for the written exam, and placed 4th overall. They competed against 21 one teams, over 80 other children, from across the state.

See a proud dad in the background, after she won her first place!
