Can Laundry Be Fun?

No, I don't think so, but at least my laundry basket should be! Seriously, who designs the solid white, blue and brown plastic laundry baskets that we all use?  Sure they are practical, but not fun at all.  These were thoughts I began pondering a few days ago.  With my boy heavy family, one husband and three boys, my basket is often filled with dark colors; camo, browns, greens, navy blues, clothes with dinosaurs, sharks, snakes, and Star Wars characters.  I like pretty.  I like color.  I like fun.  Laundry isn't any of those, especially filled with all these boy clothes.  So after a Facebook conversation with some friends on this topic, I was inspired to spray paint my trusty ole' laundry basket.  I wanted it to be aqua with white polka dots, but my small town ACE didn't have aqua spray paint for plastic.  I was thankful for the colors they did have and since I didn't want to drive 30 miles to the nearest large store to look for my color of choice, I went with another favorite of mine; red with white polka dots.

Now doesn't that look better?  Boy clothes in a Kelly basket!
Supplies...one boring laundry basket, spray paint for plastic and round sticker labels.
If your basket has one of these gray handles, it's easy to remove.  I didn't think it would paint well, so took mine off.
Flip your basket over and just push the tabs in to remove.  Simple!
Clean out this little dust trap.
Cover your basket with stickers or "eyes" as my Nate said, and spray paint your basket.  I just used one can, but was surprised that it took the whole can.  I did a couple thin layers and the inside probably could have used another coat.  I sprayed painted upside down first and after drying, I flipped and did the top and inside.
When dry, have fun removing all the stickers.  My Nate thought this part was great fun.  Enjoy your "new" basket!

  1. I love this!!! You are right, this basket would make laundry less of a chore. I could see this in pink, blue, etc. filled with gifts for a baby shower, or any color with gifts for a household shower, bright color for someone going off to college. Hmmmm, I think you are on to something here!

  2. I was hoping you were going to try it out first. I love it! Be sure to let me know how it stands up to its use. I have seen a lot of cool things done with spray paint. I really do love the laundry basket, it makes me want one. ;-) Now if only I could figure a way to get a toil or paisley print basket. Really you would think somebody would market these things.
